Film is the most underestimated item in the whole photo organisation of a wedding. The camera, you buy once. But on the night itself, at 10 PM, when the cartridges are empty and the party is in full swing, there's nothing left to negotiate: either you planned enough, or the entertainment stops dead.

Number of guests × photos per guest × 1.2 = films to order.

• Photos per guest: 2 if your crowd is on the reserved side, 3 for a classic wedding, 4 if your guests are the festive type (or if the cameras circulate in self-service all evening).
• The 1.2 coefficient: that's the 20% margin. It absorbs failed shots, accidental triggers, guests who "try one last one" — and there are always some.

Example: 100 guests, classic level → 100 × 3 × 1.2 = 360 films. Round up to the next pack size (for example 4 packs of 100).

Why not less? Because the cost of a shortage is disproportionate: the entertainment dies in the middle of the evening for €40 or €50 of films saved. And unopened films don't go to waste — they keep for 1 to 2 years in a cool place.

The price per photo drops by 15 to 25% between the 10-shot pack and the 100-shot pack. For a wedding, the question isn't "will I use it all" but "which pack size covers my table above". The surplus keeps.

Watch for sale periods

Multiplying formats multiplies the risks: a Wide cartridge loaded into a Mini, the wrong pack purchased, scattered stocks. One format for the tables (Mini), one format for the photobooth if you insist (Wide or Polaroid). Two formats maximum.

Check the expiry date on delivery

Every box carries a date, generally ~2 years after manufacture. Demand at least 6 months of remaining validity, test one cartridge per batch on arrival, and send back any doubtful batch immediately. Beware of third-party sellers with abnormally low prices.

Store cool, take out in advance

Unopened films: cool place (5-20 °C), dry, away from light — the fridge works, never the freezer. Take the cartridges out 1 to 2 hours before use: a cold film gives washed-out prints.
