The classic guest book — a notebook, signatures, a few "congratulations" — ends up on a shelf and never comes down. The photo guest book, on the other hand, gets reopened at every wedding anniversary: each page shows a face, a burst of laughter, a moment of the evening, with the handwritten message beside it. It's the most precious object you'll take away from the big day.

The organisation: table, instructions, equipment
The guest book table
A dedicated piece of furniture, not a corner of the newlyweds' table. Place it in a visible busy area — near the photobooth if you have one, it's the winning duo — with good lighting: writing a message in the dark makes for illegible pages. The table must comfortably accommodate two guests at the same time, otherwise the queue discourages people.
The instructions: three steps, zero superfluous text
A laminated A5 sign, with pictograms:
- Take a photo (or collect it from the peg line)
- Stick it in the album
- Write a message next to it
Guests don't read paragraphs. Three pictograms, an arrow, and everyone understands. Plan the same instruction in miniature on the collection baskets: "Keep one photo, drop the other one here!"
The sticking equipment
- Masking tape: the safe bet. It holds without damaging the pages or the prints, and can be repositioned if a guest sticks crooked. 3-4 rolls, preferably matching your theme.
- Photo corners: the cleanest result — the album looks like a real archivist's work — but trickier to handle. Reserve them if a witness agrees to do the sticking.
- To ban: liquid glue (seeps through the paper, warps the pages) and standard adhesive tape (yellows, peels off and damages the prints over time).
The pens
4-5 fine-tip permanent markers, including at least one light-coloured one (silver or gold) if your pages are kraft or black. Test them on the last page of the album before the big day: some markers bleed on coated paper. Plan duplicates — pens disappear into pockets at the same rate as photos.

The ideal album format follows the film choice: A4 minimum, thick pages (the paper weight matters when 150 guests stick and write), spiral or binding that opens flat. Count one page per 1.5 to 2 guests in Instax Mini — a 100-person wedding fills 50 to 70 pages.
The mistakes to avoid
An album that's too small. A5 looks cute in the shop. On the wedding night, it can't fit one print plus a message per page, and guests write in tiny letters in the margins. A4 minimum, no debate.
Opening the guest book too late. If the table isn't ready at the cocktail hour, you lose the first hour — the one when guests are most available and most careful. Late in the evening, the messages mysteriously get shorter.
No collection basket. The guest book drains of its photos if everyone leaves with their print. A labelled basket per table ("Keep one photo, drop the other one here!") and a photo manager who shuttles back and forth: that's what feeds the album all evening.
Sticking Polaroids too early. A print stuck before it's fully dry keeps marks and can cloud. Peg line, 15-20 minutes, then stick.
Leaving the album without a guardian. No need for a full-time guard — but the photo manager checks every hour that the pens haven't disappeared, that the masking tape isn't empty, and that the pages are turning.
