Fujifilm Instax Mini 13: the Mini 12's successor bets on simplicity

The Fujifilm Instax Mini 13 was announced on 17 March 2026 as the successor to the Mini 12, with availability expected around late June 2026 and a recommended retail price of €89.99 incl. VAT. The positioning is clear: remain the reference entry-level instant camera, the one you gift and use without ever opening the manual.

What the official specifications say

According to the official spec sheet published on instax.com, the Mini 13 uses Instax Mini film (62 × 46 mm image), a 2-component, 2-element f = 60 mm lens at f/12.7, and a 0.37× real-image viewfinder with parallax correction for Close-up mode. The shooting range starts at 0.3 m, with Close-up mode covering 0.3 m to 0.5 m.

The programmed electronic shutter covers 1/2 to 1/250 s with slow synchro for low light, exposure is fully automatic (Lv 5.0 to 14.5, ISO 800), and the constant-firing flash has an effective range of 0.3 m to 2.2 m. The camera runs on two AA alkaline batteries (LR6), good for roughly 10 cartridges of 10 exposures per set according to Fujifilm, and measures 105.5 × 124.7 × 67.6 mm at 327 g without batteries.

The most visible novelty in this spec sheet: an electronic self-timer of roughly 2 or 10 seconds, which the Mini 12 lacks.

Mini 13 vs Mini 12: what actually changes

A comparison with the Mini 12 is unavoidable, because the two cameras share the essentials: the same 60 mm f/12.7 lens, the same automatic exposure, the same "switch on, frame, shoot" philosophy.

Three concrete differences emerge from the official documents. First, the 2 s / 10 s self-timer, which makes group photos and posed selfies much easier — it is the headline feature of this generation. Second, the design, rounder and more three-dimensional, available in 5 colours: candy pink, frosty blue, clay white, lagoon green and dreamy violet. Under the surface, though, nothing changes: no manual control, no screen, no connectivity. Anyone who already owns a Mini 12 has no urgent reason to upgrade.

As always with instant photography, the camera body is only the starting point. Over 100 photos a year, the consumable quickly exceeds the price of the camera.

Limitations to keep in mind

The Mini 13 is a pure analogue instant camera: every shutter press produces a print, good or bad. With no screen and no memory, there is no way to sort before printing. The automatic exposure does its job well in most situations, but the flash fires on every shot and its limited range (2.2 m) means staying close to your subjects indoors.

Verdict

The Mini 13 is a cautious update of Fujifilm's best-seller. The built-in self-timer answers a real use case — group photos — and the retail price stays below the €90 mark. For a first purchase in 2026, it is the simplest pick in the Instax Mini range; for a Mini 12 owner, the evolution is too slight to justify a replacement.
